A rare C.1800’s Scottish Highland Fleshing Knife. These distinctive knives were used to remove the flesh from animals and were an important element in a hunter’s kit. It is probable that it would have been carried alongside a hunting sword or large dagger. This example appears to have great age and was purchased at auction in the Scottish Highlands and is more than likely to come from that region.
With marine ivory grip and leaf-shaped blade
The knife comprises a chequered marine ivory grip and leaf-shaped blade. In worn, used condition as it should be – they had a hard working life. Blade length is 3 inches (6.5 inches overall).
