19th Century German export Cavalry Trooper’s Sword

german-19th-century-cavalry-troopers-sword-3

A good example of a 19th Century German export Cavalry Trooper’s Sword These swords were produced in large quantities and sold to both sides during the Civil War due to shortages in the home market and the inability of the industries to produce enough swords to meet demand.  The sword comprises a brass, three-bar hilt and leather wrapped grip.  The blade is unmarked – this was very common, particularly when European sword manufacturers did not want to advertise that they were (in some cases) “smuggling” in these swords through naval blockades.

Condition of the blade is excellent

Condition of the blade is excellent with no pitting whatsoever – retains all the original polish.  The leather grip has some wear in places.  Comes complete with scabbard that is stamped to the shoe with a crowned B.  Blade length is 36 inches (41 inches overall).
