C.1750 European Decorated Gilt-Brass Smallsword

1750-rococo-smallsword-2

A fine example of a c.1750 Gilt-brass Smallsword

This is a high quality smallsword from the mid-18th Century and would have been carried by a gentleman of rank.  It comprises a finely pierced hilt that has been lavishly decorated and retains just about all of the original fire-gilt.  The blade is of rapier type and likely to be 17th Century in origin – this was quite common with smallswords of the period.  It is deeply stamped to both sides with the word – VVLEVS – it probably translates as VULEUS.

Condition of the Smallsword

In excellent condition with light wear to the blade.

Specifications of the Smallsword

Blade length is 30.5 inches (37.5 inches overall).
