An original British 19th Century 1857 Pattern Royal Engineers Officer’s Sword
This regulation pattern sword was specially designed to be carried by officers of the Royal Engineers and was carried for a relatively short period of the 19th Century and was replaced by the end of the century with the standard 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer’s Sword. With heavy brass pierced and scrolled bowl guard. Wooden grip and bound with copper twistwire. Blade etched to most of its length. No scabbard.
Condition of the Sword
Missing fishskin and with heavy wear to the blade.
Specifications of the Sword
Blade length is 32.5 inches (38 inches overall).
