A Good English c.1780 Infantry – Naval Officer’s Sword with original scabbard
With ribbed ebony grip and brass hilt mounts. Plain, slightly curved and fullered blade. Complete with original scabbard that is maker marked to Johnston, Bland and Foster – they are known to have been a supplier of swords to the Royal Navy and theproportions of the sword might indicate use on board a ship. An interesting sword.
Condition of the Sword
Scabbard chape is likely to be a later replacement.
Specifications of the Sword
Blade length is 23 inches (28 inches overall). Some chips to grip.
