A scarce English Late-17th Century Officer’s Broadsword
This is a good example of an English c.1680-1700 Officer’s sword – probably for a cavalry officer. With iron, multi-bar hilt and large, engraved pommel. Grip retains original cord binding. Blade is deeply stamped with “SARARA”(?) and “SARRAVA” – also stamped with typical armourer’s marks of opposing eyelashes. The blade is double-fullered and double-edged towards the tip. No scabbard.
Condition of the Broadsword
In good overall condition for its great age – wear to hilt and blade – break to one of the hilt bars.
Specifications of the Broadsword
Blade length is 31.5 inches (38 inches overall).
