A scarce French 19th Century Artillery Cadet’s Gladius Sword. This is an interesting piece and is a smaller version of the typical full size French Model 1831 Artillery Gladius that was issued to the French Army and produced in large numbers throughout the century. It was a sword style adopted by many European nations and also carried by military combatants during the American Civil War. I believe that this sword was carried by a French Artillery cadet and most likely was a dress sword. The sword comprises a ribbed, cast brass hilt and straight, unfullered blade. There is no scabbard. Blade length is 18 inches (23 inches overall).
