A scarce French Napoleonic Naval Officer’s Dirk with a large ribbed ebony and brass mounted grip. The blade is double-edged and still extremely sharp and would have been a very effective stabbing weapon on board a sailing ship and with combat at close quarters. The condition of the dirk is excellent for its great age and there is no damage of repairs of any consequence. The blade has only very light speckling and staining in places. The dagger has great balance and weight in the hand. There is no scabbard. Both hilt and blade are rock solid and with no movement – they have never been apart and the brass hilt mounts have a very pleasing honey age colour – not been cleaned. A seldom encountered piece. Blade length is 8 inches (12 inches overall).
