British Napoleonic Cavalry Officer’s Sword
A very good and original British Napoleonic Cavalry Officer’s Sword. With typical gilt brass stirrup hilt and including its original sword knot – quite rare. The grip is made from ribbed ivory and the curved blade is etched with a number of motifs including GR royal cypher, royal coat of arms (post-1805) and stands of trophies. Blade edge is marked to J J Runkell, the German sword blade importer. The sword comes complete with scabbard that is maker engraved to R Johnston, late Bland and Foster. A good honest piece.
Condition of the Sword
In good overall condition commensurate with its age – sword blade is slightly proud of the scabbard, probably due to leather shrinkage. Some nicks to end of blade.
Specifications of the Sword
Blade length is 32.5 inches (37 inches overall).
