A scarce C.1700 English Hunting Naval Hanger Sword
This is a scarce example of a C.1700 English Hunting Naval Hanger Sword with typical staghorn grip, brass pommel and shell guard. It has an unusually long, unfullered blade that probably indicates a military, rather than a hunting role. It would have been very effective when used as a naval cutlass as the blade length was ideal for close combat on the deck of a warship.
Condition of the Sword
Hilt in good condition – blade with heavy wear.
Specifications of the Sword
Blade length is 19.75 inches (25 inches overall).
