A scarce C.1770 Dutch VOC Lantaka Bronze Cannon
C.1770 Dutch VOC (East India Company) type Lantaka Bronze Cannon. These cannons were used in South East Asia throughout the 18th and 19th Century and were usually mounted on small sailing craft as a defensive weapon. They were also used by pirates, although this type is more associated with the longer barrelled, more ornate versions. This example is European in style with a typical squat barrel. Is mounted on a wooden plinth.
Condition of the Cannon
In good condition for its age with consequent wear. One of the trunnions is missing.
