British Napoleonic Infantry Flank Officer’s Sword

british-napoleonic-flank-officer-sword-3

A very good British Napoleonic Infantry Flank Officer’s Sword.  This example has a distinctive stirrup hilt with fishskin and steel twistwire to the grip.  The blade is plain with a pronounced curve and double edged towards the end of the blade.  These swords are often confused with light cavalry swords of the period as the stirrup-type hilt and curved blade are very similar but the infantry swords are invariably shorter in length.

Complete with original leather and steel mounted scabbard

The sword comes complete with its original leather and steel mounts.  In good overall condition – one scabbard ring missing.  Blade length is 27.5 inches (32 inches overall).

Scottish C.1900’s 1857 Pattern Field Officer’s Sword

scottish-1857-pattern-field-officers-sword-3

scottish-1828-pattern-broadsword-IMAGE

An original Scottish C.1900’s 1857 Pattern Field Officer’s Sword

This sword was carried by Scottish officers in Lowland regiments and comprises a very fine nickel-plated, pierced acanthus-leafed hilt with fishskin and copper twistwire to the grip.  The hilt also retains its original white buck leather and blue velvet liner.  The blade is unusually plain and it is possible that this was made during the First World War under economy conditions.  Conversely, it could have been carried by a senior NCO.  Sword comes complete with original nickel-plated scabbard.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition, particularly the blade.  Some light pitting in places to the scabbard.

Massive 19th Century South Seas Village Feasting Platter

south-seas-feasting-platter-1

Massive, rare and original 19th Century South Seas tribal feasting platter

This extremely heavy hardwood platter would have been communally shared by family members and villagers. In good condition and with appreciable age wear to the wood.

Unfortunately, the extreme weight of this item means that it is COLLECTION ONLY – VERY IMPORTANT – I cannot ship as the cost would be considerably more than the value of the item.  Alternatively, the buyer will have to arrange collection / packing by a courier. I would estimate the weight of this to be around 30-40 kgs.  Would make a great piece of furniture and certainly a talking point.

Condition of the Feasting Platter

In good condition and with appreciable age wear to the wood.

Specifications of the Feasting Platter

Length of platter is 53 inches – width is 16 inches.

British 19th Century Newcastle Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Sword

newcastle-artillery-volunteers-sword-3

An original and scarce named British 19th Century Newcastle Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Sword

This sword was carried by an officer in the 1st Battalion of the Newcastle Volunteer Artillery regiment.  This regiment was raised in mid-19th Century and although there is little information around, it is thought that they manned coastal artillery pieces.  This sword is actually named on the blade to “Cuthbert J Love” or Lovett – would be worth some further research.  All I can find on the web is this.  Is regimentally named to the blade and there are also motifs of a cannon, lightning bolts, royal crown and cypher.

Condition of the Sword

Blade with some age wear.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 32 inches (38 inches overall).

Is maker marked near the blade forte.  The sword comes complete with a fantastic leather and gilt brass scabbard.  Probably a unique piece.

15th-century-dagger-2

A very scarce and early English/European 15th Century Rondel Type Dagger

This is a seldom seen late-Medieval dagger with a pronounced downward crossguard and thick, reinforced blade that would  have been very effective when piercing plate, mail and armour.  It also has a sectioned and flattened pommel.  The grip is likely to have been wooden and rotted away.  Daggers of this period are quite rare and especially in this complete condition.

Condition of the Dagger

In typical excavated(?) condition – all metal has been stabilised with no rust.

British/European 1796 Pattern Type Light Cavalry Trooper’s Sword

napoleonic-1796-pattern-type-sword-2

An unusual British/European 1796 Pattern Type Light Cavalry Trooper’s Sword

This sword is typical of the British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Trooper’s Sword but has a slimmer quillon, more curved and fullered  blade than most traditional 1796 Pattern swords.  Is probably British but an unorthodox example.  With original black painted stirrup hilt bound with leather and steel twistwire.  The blade is multi-fullered and double-edged towards the point.  No scabbard.

Condition of the Sword

In good overall condition with some wear to the blade.

Specifications of the Sword

Blade length is 30 inches (35 inches overall).
