Late-18th/early 19th Century European Napoleonic Military Short Sword

napoleonic-brass-short-sword-2

A scarce late-18th/early 19th Century European Napoleonic Military Short Sword.  This is an interesting infantry short sword from the period of the Napoleonic Wars.  Have not been able to positively identify it to any particular country but expect it to be European in origin.   I remember acquiring a similar sword many years ago that had Scandinavian markings to the blade – am pretty sure that it is Northern European.  This type of short sword could also have been issued by a Pioneer or Artilleryman as these leaf-shaped bladed short swords tended to be carried by this branch of military service.

Distinctive ribbed brass grip and plain blade

It comprises a distinctive ribbed brass grip and very wide, plain blade with a long, single fuller.  No scabbard.  Am also selling another identical example.  Wear to the blade commensurate with its age.  Blade length is 20 inches (25 inches overall).

Late-18th/early 19th Century European Military Short Sword

napoleonic-short-sword-2

A very unusual late-18th/early 19th Century European Military Short Sword for issue to an ordinary soldier.  This is an interesting military short sword from the time of the Napoleonic Wars.  I have not been able to positively identify it to any particular country but expect it to be North European in origin, possibly Scandinavian –  I came across a similar example some years ago that had Scandinavian issue and maker marks to the blade forte so this could be an avenue of research.  These swords were typically issued to Pioneer and Artillery troops.

Grooved brass sword grip and single fuller to the blade

Comprising a distinctively shaped heavy, ribbed brass grip with faceted pommel and a very wide, plain blade with single fuller to most of its length.  No scabbard.  Am also selling another identical example so please take a look at my other listings.  Wear to the blade, especially near the end – tip of blade missing.  Blade length is 19.5 inches (24.5 inches overall).

Nepalese 19th Century Gurkha Kukri

old-antique-kukri-3

An early example of a Nepalese 19th Century Gurkha Kukri.  The earlier blades tend to be slimmer and longer than the later, more wider kukris that you find in the 20th Century.  This is not a tourist kukri which is the type of kukri that tends to be most prevalent in the market nowadays.  This kukri was made for use and not just decoration.

Hardwood grip and brass inlay to the blade

There is some decorative brass inlay to the blade forte that lifts the overall quality of the kukri as many examples have a simple, plain blade.  With carved hardwood grip inset with white metal discs.  No scabbard.  In good overall condition with some commensurate age wear to the grip..  Blade length is 14 inches (18.5 inches overall).

WW1 Polish Legion Adrian Helmet

polish-legion-adrian-helmet-1

A super rare WW1 Polish Legion Adrian helmet

This helmet was worn by volunteers in the Polish Free Army who volunteered to fight on the side of the allies on the Western Front.  They were known by various names – The Haller Army, the Blue Army and also the Polish Legion in France. This Blue Army (they wore horizon blue French uniforms) was the Polish contribution to the forces on the western front in WWI. They initially trained and fought under French command and and by the end of WW1 they were officially recognized as the independent Polish Army.  Their leader was General Jozef Haller who was the former leader of the 2nd Polish Legion under the Austrians-Hungarians. .

Condition of the helmet

This helmet displays the original blue paint finish – now with rusting in places.  Retains its original Polish crowned eagle badge.  It comes with a brown leather liner which is now detached – have not attempted to re-attach it and cannot guarantee that it is the original one so buyer will have to make their own mind up and it is sold as is.  The chinstrap certainly looks to be original though. This is a very rare helmet and rarely seen in the market.
