A rare African Malawi 1897 Pattern Army Officer’s Wilkinson Sword
This sword is quite rare and would have been carried by an officer in the Malawi Army. The country gained independence in 1964 and it is believed that the government placed an order with Wilkinson Sword t supply the officers in their armed forces with ceremonial swords. This sword probably dates from the 1960’s/’70’s. It follows exactly the form of the British Infantry Officer’s 1897 Pattern sword except that the state coat of arms of Malawi have been etched onto the sword hilt. The blade is extensively decorated with Malawian state motifs. The sword comes complete with its original field service scabbard.
Condition of the Sword
In exceptional condition – virtually unusued – blade is absolutely mint.
Specifications of the Sword
Blade length is 32.5 inches (38 inches overall).
