A good example of an Italian 19th Century House of Savoy Officer’s Smallsword
The smallsword is of a type carried by officer’s in the service of the House of Savoy that became in the 19th Century, the Kingdom of Italy and ruled until the end of WW2. The sword comprised a gult brass hilt in the neo-classical style with a human-form pommel and royal family eagle to the shell guard. The slab grips are made from mother-of-pearl. The hilt quillon takes the form of a lionshead. The blade is decorated with blue and gilt foliate patterns. No scabbard.
Condition of the Smallsword
In excellent condition throughout – just about all blue and gilt remaining to the blade.
Specifications of the Smallsword
Blade length is 31 inches (36 inches overall).
