An excellent Prussian Model 1855 Pioneer’s Short Sword
This is a Prussian Model 1855 Pioneer’s Short Sword with cast brass and ribbed grip. These swords were carried by specialist pioneer troops who were responsible for clearing undergrowth and building defences e.g. fascines. This type of sword was designed with a heavy hatchet blade and was meant for utility work in the field rather than combat. The scabbard has an unusual brass side catch for fixing to the belt.
