Scottish Jacobite C.1700’s Highlander’s Fighting Dirk

An original and unique Scottish Jacobite early 18th Century Highlander’s fighting dirk. This is a teriffic weapon and perfectly designed for use with the Highland targe (shield). It fits perfectly into the palm of the hand and would have been hidden behind the targe and used as a lethal stabbing weapon during combat. The grip is made from a large animal bone (probably Highland cattle) and the blade is made from a Scottish Highland broadsword blade – dirks of this early period were commonly made from broken old broadsword blades. What gives it away as a Scottish Jacobite dirk is the distinctive pommel nut that is seen on many Scottish dirks of this period.
